Hi friends!
I’m so grateful you’re on my mailing list! I genuinely enjoy communicating directly with you all.
I have some exciting news to share: you have a chance to win a this FREE mini from my Beyond the Sea collection! The winner will be announced on April 24th.
This piece was crafted on a 4” wood panel with iridescent acrylic paint and inspired after a morning walk along Chappy Beach. When I left the beach, I had the gorgeous melody of the final movement of Haydn’s Farewell Symphony singing in my head. So this piece was chosen to be titled, “Haydn’s Farewell”. The melody is found here starting at 3min https://youtu.be/sOF5K6zOaLc?si=GBICTIny0XSJ8DFl
If you don’t know the history behind this piece it has a fascinating story! In 1772, Haydn and his musicians were stationed at Prince Esterházy’s summer palace in rural Hungary, as reported by the London Symphony Orchestra. Their stay had exceeded expectations, and the musicians yearned to return to their families in Eisenstadt. To subtly convey their desire to depart, Haydn devised a clever plan.
During the final movement of the symphony, each musician would pause their playing, extinguish their candle, and exit the stage, leaving only Haydn and his concertmaster on stage. This symbolic gesture represented the musicians’ longing to return home. It appears that Prince Esterházy comprehended the message, as the court promptly returned to Eisenstadt the following day. This is one of the reasons I love classical music history! Fascinating stuff!
